The Nearly Deads – “Revenge of the Nearly Deads”

“Led by the inimitable vocalist Theresa Jeane along with Steven Tobi (guitar), Kevin Koelsch (bass), Javier Garza Jr. (guitar) and Josh Perrone (drums), The Nearly Deads are one of the hottest, rising rock bands to come out of Nashville. The band’s amalgam of powerful pop vocals and aggressive alternative rock music combined with their love of all things geek and messages of positivity and empowerment creates a truly unique style that’s garnering attention from media and fans around the world.”

As far as bio’s go, it’s one that accurately reflects the talent and passion that exists in “The Nearly Deads”.  Thank god they’re only nearly dead and not mostly dead else we’d have to get “Miracle Max” in on the case.  Their recent EP “Revenge of the Nearly Deads” though doesn’t require any life support or resuscitation because quite frankly, it’s a stormer.

“Diamond in the Rough” kicks off the show with plenty of attitude and punch. The production isn’t over processed and the main riff bounces along propelling the band into infectious overdrive.  It’s one of those songs that gets lodged into your brain with a “Lucille” type baseball bat that’ll have you humming it without even realising it.

“My Evil Ways” continues the theme with plenty of grrr.  Jeane’s vocal range is impressive with flawless delivery, but with some superb musicianship on display from the whole band it underlines and stamps in bold that The Nearly Deads are the perfect package.  “Not Listening “ has a little bit more electronica thrown into the mix, but it’s not over the top or distracting, but instead finely interwoven into a great track.

“Revenge”, as you’d expect with the name, has a darker feel to it, but with the familiar catchy chorus delivery as you’d expect from the band.  “Frequencies” has a much more majestic ballad feel to it, almost bordering on Evanescence, but holding its own in comparison.  This certainly isn’t a track that hides in the shadows of its peers.

“As Good as it Gets” is a real surprise. It’s a stripped back ballad for the most part with some beautiful vocals from Jeane throwing light on some fantastic talent.  There’s a vulnerability to her delivery which just draws you into the song.

So “Revenge of the Nearly Deads”, it’s slick, it’s polished, it’s professional, without losing any of its edge or appeal as a consequence.
