Sweet Angel Cosplay – Cosplay Feature

Introducing the incredible Sweet Angel Cosplay.  Our Italian is pretty rubbish, luckily her English is pretty good and her cosplays are flawless.  Yoko Littner looks great but Sweet Angel’s take on Rena Denip is just sublime.  Read on to find out more…

Could you tell us a little about yourself?

I’m an Italian girl who started cosplaying around 2009. I make my own costumes, switching from sewing skills to prop making and make up.  I founded a team in 2010 to organise cosplay events in the North of Italy, and in those 7 years my friends and I have organised around 40 events.

How big is the cosplay scene in Italy?

Quite big, we have tons of events: sometimes in the same region we have 4-6 events the same weekend! The cosplay community in Italy is growing so fast!

What or who inspired you to Cosplay?

I discovered the cosplay word thanks to my videogame passion when I was an early teenager, because I saw pictures of people wearing my favourite character’s dress and it was awesome! So few years later I started 😀

What have been the reactions by friends and family to your cosplays?

When I started doing cosplay their reaction weren’t good, I changed friends and I didn’t listen to my parents. Now the same old friends who criticized me are curious and asked me questions about cosplay, some are still not interested and think it’s something for kids, others are envious of my results… Well I still do what I like and I don’t care about them so much as the beginning because I’m doing something that makes me happy.

Are there specific types of character that you particularly gravitate towards and why?

I like strong girls, with weapons! I’m not one for princesses, kids or moe characters :p

What for you have been the most challenging characters that you’ve cosplayed as, and which have been the most enjoyable?

Every year I try to do something more difficult than the previous one, so every time is a challenge because I want to try something harder or new for my skills. I think the most complicated was Rena Denip and Wizard!

I really enjoy cosplaying as Yoko Littner, I really feel her ❤

For the most part the cosplay community are fairly respectful, but have there been times when someone has overstepped the mark?

Luckily I’ve met respectful people in these years, and I have very good followers online. Sometimes there are bad ones, but it’s quite rare! I just ignore them, I block them if they’re online or I tell them I don’t like their behaviour with me or with friends of mine.

A question about photographers. Obviously cosplayers are a dream come true for photographers, great outfits and poses, does it ever get a bit tiring having to pose endlessly for them, and how do you prefer to be approached by a photographer?

Photographers are great, I’m so glad they like they appreciate so much the cosplay world because they give us the possibility to have amazing memories of our costumes and events.

There is not a rule about how I approach hem or how they approach me, if we both like our works we start to think about some pictures together during a convention or an external photoset.

You’ve worked with some professional photographers too, how much do you enjoy creating art with them?

I think there are very good amateur photographers, and sometimes them could be better than who do it as a job. I worked with both of them, I have to like the people before than his works and just with this I can give 100%

What impact has cosplaying had on your life?

Quite big! I mean it’s my main hobby and where I spend most of my rare free time: crafting, sewing, planning, going to events, organising photoshoots. Most of my friends are cosplayers or photographers or event organisers. So the impact of cosplay in my life is quite big as I said.

Do you have any advice for anybody thinking of cosplaying?

Start small, look at other people, accept critique and advice. Try and try, don’t stop yourself, you’ll never stop to learn. Do what you really like, not just what is mainstream.

Do cosplay for yourself, not for other people! And of course have fun!
