Four piece London rockers, “Heel” have just released their video for ‘Nothing New’, a track taken from the band’s debut album “The Parts We Save”. At the outset, Margarita purrs “I know why I do this” while the music bounces along up tempo. The song is actually nicely written and very well performed, but, and it’s a “but” in a nice way, the video really rams home the message.
Heel have made the comment
“Nothing New is about the labels and managers taking artists who have potential to do something unique, and trying to turn them into pop bands who fit the same formula. Although the video may be tongue in cheek, the pressure on bands to conform to mainstream pop standards is something we see time and time again so we wanted to make a statement around that.”
It’s something we’ve certainly seen a lot of, and it’s disappointing when you see labels and managers give their steer on something without really taking into account of what the band want to do. It’s really at that point bands have to have to ask themselves what they’re in the band for in the first place, is it chasing the markets and the money, or is it because they want to do something they love as opposed to someone else’s idea of what they should love doing.
Heel have opted for doing what they love, and we hope you love it too!
