For a relatively small country in the EU, Slovenia has a disproportionately high percentage of awesome talent, Robert Kranjec (Ski-Jump), Tina Maze, Samir Handanovic, Siddharta and, the Puppetz!
We’ve interviewed them twice before, and they are an absolutely terrific group of people to talk with. Musically though, they’ve certainly evolved over time, not content with just doing the same thing over and over. First time we met them they were on the edge of the nu-metal scene, but now, it seems they’ve got a far more mature sound that isn’t trying to be anyone or anything else but firmly still connecting to their rock origins.
Their latest single “Anticipator” is from their album “Top of the World”, and it’s damned fantastic. Combining some nice keyboards with a dark intro the first thing that strikes you is the confidence oozing through the band. There’s no showboating for the sake of it, and the chorus is instantly catchy. If this was played on Radio 1 for example, they’d be catapulted into the UK’s music consciousness and a sizeable percentage of listeners would become fans.
Pahljina’s vocals are spot on, and the guitar riff is an absolute stormer. The song is well written, with the build up to the chorus and the chorus itself very reminiscent of The Foo Fighters, but still retaining its originality. I think it’s also worth noting the excellent production work by Tomaž Maras.
In short, I love this song!
